FOCUS SITE ‖ Growth of MOON RIVER in Stories

The 2nd China Design Exhibition is ongoing and the Moon River, designed by ASL as a comprehensive tourism resort project is shortlisted under landscape category and exhibited in the central exhibition hall of Guan Shanyue Art Museum. By rounds of scheme analysis and comparison, finally “Growth” is taken as exhibition equipment for the event due to limits in site and other exhibition requirements. Now three schemes are given as examples
Scheme 1

Materials: corroded iron plate, ecological planting belt, plants, propylene paint
Technology: vertical ecological landscape wall, cold fog system
Growth as a matter of fact is a process of development and evolution. To living beings, growth is a process of life change and species evolution; to the biological system, growth is a process of mutual tolerance and influence, which may be balanced or loss balance.
Human production is the largest production power in ecological system growth. The rapid growth of villages and towns, significant demands in productivity, excessive consumption of energy result in pollution of soil and air, distinction of species and civilization, and endanger the ecological system. It is our social responsibility to recover and protect natural ecological environment, design and construct a scientific urban ecological environment to achieve the balance of greater ecological system and to maintain the sustainable growth.
The work is a multi-dimensional framework with independent arts space factors and connecting with surrounding space factors in behavior and vision, as a part of the entire space system. This is the same with ecological system to a certain degree. The whole composition indicates that the nature and cities on the land shall tolerate and grow with each other. Framework elements are the abstract condensation of the ecological system balance, while the green framework plane on the land is the artistic expression of ecological tolerance and embodies the beauty of balance. The ecological vertical greening, eroded iron plates which form a framework painted with propylene express the harmonious relationship between human and the nature in a 3D way. The oxidation of eroded iron plates shows the process of life growth, energy consumption and culture distinction, and the vertical greening and multi-layer painting are an expression of co-existence of different elements. Framework elements with inherent relation are arranged at a certain principle and form the aesthetic perception of balanced space system. Such beauty has the power of life and is a kind of sustainable growth process.
Scheme 2

Materials: steel structure, grow bags, tube type acrylic and broken stone
Technology: ecological slope protection, soil structure
opographic relief is taken as the background vision and open connection with water flow axis as the roads. It tolerates with surrounding environment and items on display to play a role of interposition and instruction in the first floor for exhibition.
It is expected that the topographic design prototype of Moon River is to pay respect to the land and to explain the relationship amongst the plants, water and soil in the wetland, while the planting troughs are the growth axis of plants. Bulkhead treatment and plant column arrays are the main parts in the design. Bulkhead treatment and aquatic plants have the functions of conserving water, retaining water and biological conservation. The well-arranged column arrays are embedded in the ecological forest. And roads extend to the surroundings.
Scheme 3

Materials: ecological floating islets, plants, acrylic, plastic and broken stone
Technology: vertical ecological landscape wall, soil structure, image projection
Independent plant “boxes” are placed out of hallowed windows in consideration of the facades and vision to the external environment. Science popularization and participation are taken as the space design factors. At the entrance, tube type acrylic is for detailed analysis of wetland plants and appreciation of seeds, leaves, barks, root systems and soil by magnification. The entire equipment consists of two parts. Upwardly, the natural ecological wetland expresses the co-existence relationship of islets (islets in the Moon River Wetland Park as the design prototype). Islets are arranged at different heights and planktonic organisms and aquatic plants achieve the water purification and circulation. To show the image of Zhouzhuang, natural ecology and culture of the ancient town are projected over the floating islets and correspond to the nature as a whole; downwardly, artificial wetland treatment approaches are used to express the harmony and co-existence between human and ecology. Modularized waterside structure, gardens irrigated with rain drops, soil profile information reflect the combination of ground landscape and underground structure. The upward and downward relationship is the co-existence relationship of ecology.

Above drafts are to introduce the Moon River Wetland Park project at different angles and explain the responsibility of landscape designers for development and protection of ecology.
